Update installed with no problems.
Some things noticed already.
Contacts seems to respond much much better.
Turned on 3g and suprise, got "No Service", took about 15 seconds for switch over to Edge, but atleast there is the new Edge icon :(.
Apps seem to be responding well. Big issue for me is how long it took to switch over to edge. Atleast its not going back and forth so far like before. Wonder if I will ever have 3g.
By the way, i live in a supposed 3g rich location, just west of ohare in chicago area.

"Yes, GPS turn by turn directions"
Can someone confirm the meaning of this? Do they mean there's test saying to take the 2nd exit at a roundabout, take the 2nd right?
If so, I had this already with 2.0

The Apple Discussions are saying that GPS routing hasn't changed; i.e. it will give you all the turns, but it won't track your progress along the route and notify you when a turn is coming up. I guess my Garmin nuvi still has gainful employment.

I just upgraded my 3g through iTunes 8.0, and with 3g enabled I also get "NO SERVICE"!
Without 3g, I get 5 bars of signal!
I'm in Houston, TX, and we are about to get pounded with hurricane Ike. With that being said, before I upgraded, I did NOT have 3g enabled, so maybe the 3g network is out in Houston.
Do ya think that Ike is affecting 3g in Chicago too???

One of the big things I was waiting for was the addition of the ability to increase notifications for SMS messages by up to two times.
Well, Apple did implement this, just not very efficiently.
I use SMS mainly as an alternative to a pager for work. However, the iPhone just does not repeat enough times to wake me up in the middle of the night. I was hoping that with this update, I would be able to control whether or not it gave me additional notification or not. Thinking that the notifications would be back-to-back.
Here is what I have found since installing the update. The additional notifications are automatically turned on and you cannot control it. The additional notifications are not back-to-back notifications (like most other cell phones and pagers) but are instead spaced 5 minutes apart.
So, if you get an SMS and do not look at it, the iPhone will notify you again 5 minutes after the SMS was received. If you still do not look at it, the iPhone will notify you again 10 minutes after the SMS was received.
While I am glad they added this feature, I wish they had give the end-user more control over how this feature is configured.
Just my two cents worth.
