Unfortunately it is very poor - it only captures the entire screen and does not record any audio.

Hi. I'm Steve Cholerton CEO of Arten Science, the author of macVCR. I admit the version 1.0.0 release is light on features but I'm not sure it's fair to call it poor. The idea was to get a version out there that had great video quality (judging by feedback so far I think I achieved that), was stable, and that was light on CPU and disk space, with a simple, pleasant interface.

Future versions of macVCR will have audio, region selection and possibly aspect ratio settings in addition to other goodies I cannot disclose yet. I realise you can only judge by what is available now and I do appreciate the fact that you took the time to at least look at the product. But, watch this space :-) I hope you try, and buy, one of the future releases. - Cheers - Steve

Hi Steve,

my apologies for my negative comment, which actually was premature - I used your application a bit more and found that it is stable, works well and is, as you point out, light. I also find it most generous that you allow 60 seconds of screen capturing with the free version.

I would say now, upon further use, that it is a good and useful application with lots of potential for the future.

Thank you very much

martins

This sounds like a terrific product, and at some point I'd like to give it a try. That it has a conscientious author is a plus as well. Unfortunately, it requires OSX 10.5+, while I am using a G3 Powerbook and bound to Panther (OSX 10.3.9)--and therefore unable to take advantage of the very feature that appeals to me: the low demands on system resources. sigh

Hi. We only have 10.5+ Macs on which to test so as I am not sure of the compatibility with the older O/S I cannot state that it works. However, it may well do. The trial version can record 60 seconds of video, so give it a whirl - I'd be interested to know how you get on. Cheers - Steve steve@artenscience.co.uk

The people who say it only records what's on your screen, so therefor it is bad, are making useless comments. The title of the article is "MacVCR utility records what's on your screen." so, helloooooo, to expect it to do more than that is stupid.

Hi. I've released an update to macVCR tonight with a few extra features that I have been asked for by customers and potential customers. My email has been red hot since last night :-)

24th September 2008: Feature: FPS and Frame Interval (ms) shown prior to recording
24th September 2008: Feature: Adjustable Output Resolution
24th September 2008: Feature: New Tools Menu, Option to calculate Max FPS
24th September 2008: Feature: Support for Multiple Monitors
24th September 2008: Fix: A small timing issue has been resolved
