Because there will always be people who want to pick holes in everything and try to make a fast buck out of nothing.

Personally I have had my iPhone exactly one year after I purchased it. I have no noticed a degradation of battery performance. But I get a feeling that when it goes, it will be fast.

I understand the desire for Apple to have a nice tight clean design. I have a Nokia phone with replaceable battery and the battery door has always been lose. If you drop it, the battery may fall out.
But I would think Apple could work with the battery people to come up with a nice slim battery that could slide into a slot or something and keep a clean look. Not possible?

Parts are packed pretty tightly in the iPhone. Any time you add a convenience capability such as a battery slot, it will add bulk, which requires either that the phone be larger or the battery smaller. With the complaints of short battery life already, the only real option would be to enlarge the phone.

While I don't think it's a suable action, it sure would be nice to have a user-replaceable battery on the iPhone. I've had my 1st gen iPhone for about 6 months and love it, however, I'm not looking forward to losing my phone for several days while the battery is being replaced. Anyone know what the turnaround time is on getting a battery replacement?

I'd be surprised if anyone suing concerning the ability for a user to replace the battery wasn't already part of a lawsuit against Apple for a similar complaint about an iPod.
I am surprised that there isn't some ambulance chaser on t.v. looking for iPod/iPhone victims.
It seems to me that Apple could have done a replaceable battery easily, had they wanted to do such a thing. They didn't and, if you don't like it or can't deal with it, you don't have to buy it, right?

Some people aren't afforded that luxury when their boss gives them the phone to use as part of their employment.

Wow, if my boss had given us iphones for work I'd have been really happy, instead, they always went for the cheapest most basic handsets :)

With Apple's current slim-it or get rid of it way of doing things, there can never be a larger iPhone or iPod. The removal of the what should have been new 240GB iPod Classic was probably more about slimness than sales. Look at all of the different colors of the new iPod Nano. Also the thing that many forget about is that Steve Jobs does not think that anyone should be able to open an Apple product, including the Mac. Non-user replaceable batteries, hard drives & most other components is the way that Steve Jobs has always been This is not new. So even if Apple could build an iPhone with the same battery without making the phone bigger would never happen. The same goes for all of their other products.

Apple products are nice, but with time everything needs to be replaced. Sometimes it seems that it will cost more for Apple to replace a normally user replaceable part such as a batery. With Apple's history, if you want to do it yourself, doen't buy Apple.

DisabledTrucker: if you get a free phone as part of your employment, you have even less to complain about. 1. the phone is free. 2. they are paying the bills. 3. they will pay the bills for the battery replacement.

As for all those people complaining about being without service while the phone is getting new battery, try relaxing and enjoying life for the few days. And if you get exited by that statement saying: yah but I make a living through my phone, you are even more in need of a holiday.
