"With Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands taken care of, only one question lingers: what about Guam, people?"
What about North Dakota, South Dakota, most of Nebraska, most of Kansas, Wyoming, and Montana?
And that is just basic coverage, not 3G coverage.
Ability to buy an iPhone means nothing if it cannot be used.

I've always been confused on why companies treat Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands like separate countries. I work at UPS and packages sent there are treated like international packages.
I know the iPhone prices prices are the same but why the wait?

That problem is Puerto Rico "Status". We are not a State, not a Republic / Country. We are US Territory, the last colony. Is so confused but read this.
