When I'm typing on the iPhone in English I love the Autocorrect feature but when I type in other non English languages it's very annoying. Is there a way to temporarily turn off the Autocorrect feature?

I'm using a 3G iPhone running 2.1.

What language are you using? The iPhone supports over 20 different languages. If you are using a supported language, go to settings, select general, tap on keyboard and turn on the language you are trying to use. Once you have done this, you can switch between languages by tapping on the globe like symbol on the iPhone's keyboard located next to the spacebar.

Thanks for the tip but unfortunately the language I use is Vietnamese and it's not listed.
There are many hundreds of languages that will most likely never be supported so having the option to turn off the Autocorrect function would be a very convenient indeed. Does Apple provide this on and off function on the iPhone?

Sorry, but I don't think it is possible at this time. Hopefully, Apple will come with Vietnamese support later on an option to turn the auto correct off.

Apple does not provide the ability to turn off the autocorrect feature, but a few of the rumor folks with decent track records suspect it will be in the next firmware update.

So at this point it's just wait-and-see when that is released, whenever that is.

Thank you for your help. Let's hope Apple realizes that the Autocorrect feature has some limitations and will make it more flexible to use in the near future.

This feature must be the worst thing Apple has ever come up with! Almost every word I enter gets a correction suggested, even if the word was correct. Worse still, the corrections are not correct! I admit that I am not helping matters by writing English on a Swiss German phone. But, it would be so simple to provide a turn off "feature". Or perhaps a switch that let's the user take the suggestions explicitly rather than be forced to decline them!

Hi, I have the same problem.
I found this on an other forum, but didin't try it yet.
Seem to be a way to trick the software.

"If you would like for any reason turn autocorrect off, this is how you do it: you go to settings -> general -> keyboard -> international keyboard and there set it to korean. and when your now trying to write messages, you just click on globe icon on the left side to turn "international mode" on and voila keyboard without autocorrect."

Thanks for the tip but I can't get it to work. When I click on the globe it switches to Korean keyboard and letters but I did notice that it doesn't Autocorrect.
After playing around with this concept a bit I figured out that If I choose Danish then the Autocorrect doesn't annoy me as much. I'll continue to explore other keyboard settings and hopefully I'll find one that has the QWERTY layout without the Autocorrect.
Thanks for your help.
