The funny part here is that although there is not a user replaceable battery, it is replaceable. Unlike the original iphone where the battery was soldered to the board the new 3g iphone is not. So if you happen to need to replace it the cost should be much less.
If you work without power for days this might be a problem. But for most it is not. And compared to my Windows Mobile device which had to be recharged everyday, regardless of use, the iphone 3g batter last for a couple of days with moderate use. Still not as good as the palm devices but it is acceptable.
And if you really need extra power and you where planning on carrying an extra battery anyway, there are power adapters that plug into the phone that recharge it from standard batteries.
