Even though I found the Bean Counter ad absolutely hilarious, I really do not appreciate these new Apple ads.

The current Apple ads are remarkably subtle, they make a refreshing change from the constant diet of buy me Buy Me BUY ME BUY ME!!! on TV.
BUT, there comes a time when the strategy has to change, go for the throat Apple, go for the big Micro$oft target. Go on, you KNOW you WANT to ;-)

Get off it, Schneb, I'm thoroughly enjoying these ads, as are most likely many others. Why else would Apple continue with this series for so long. Though they might not be as extravagant a cost as MS's, they're most likely quite expensive in their own right with name talent such as Hodgson and Long, plus the agency and production costs, etc. They have to be proving their value.

The other thing is, they're not produced for YOU, as disappointing as that may be to your ego. Like others have said, they're aimed at the "victims of Vista." Most likely, a good number of them are responding by buying Apple products.

Here is an ad I want to see:

One of Microsoft's most recent ads is about a people using "microsoft navajo" or something like that and then telling them that its actually vista. And they are like "wow thats good".

I think apple should use something like shapeshifter to disguise leopard as a pc and then show it to people as the successor to vista and instead of saying its vista they say "I have something to tell you: this is not a pc its a mac."

The previous ads may not say why Apple is better, but the series of ads certainly has - maybe even specifically. That's giving the public a little credit for recognizing the theme and recalling from memory. Step back and look at the series as a whole, as this is what most people familiar with the ads will do, even if subconciously. Something else to consider is the "buzz" factor - where word of mouth prompts interest. In marketing, you are never going for the "yes" or "no" - but the "maybe". I beleive the ads are designed to spark interest, and maybe get someone to walk into that Apple store they've been skirting in the past...

Saying "Vista is broken" without saying "Mac works" is a mistake.

Do you really think people need that spelled out for them? I know there are a lot of stupid people out there, but even someone with major brain injuries could connect the dots on that one.

These ads are hilarious. If you're taking it personally maybe it's because you're relating too much to the "PC Guy". Don't blame Apple for for Micro$hafts problems. Console your hurt feelings by getting a new Mac.

I totally disagree is Schneb. Childish? I don't think so. It's called satire. They're bringing attention to the failings of their competitor by filtering facts through comedy.

@Donelson - ALL of their ads do not need to specify ALL of the advantages of Macs over Windows (really OS X over Windows). There is just as much detail in what they DON'T say as with what they DO say.

Besides, these aren't the only two Mac/PC ads Apple's made: http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/

The bottom line is that if Vista didn't suck so bad Apple wouldn't have so much ammo to use in their ad campaign, which I guarantee is no where NEAR what M$ is spending to get you to buy their sucky products. They even had to launch the "Mojave" ad campaign AKA the "Vista doesn't suck that bad guys!" campaign. (Really it does though. After having to support it I'm with the keep XP crowd.)

So what if they point M$'s flaw out in ads. It's not a freaking political election. It's product advertisement. At least it's not the FUD that M$ has been spouting about every competitor in their many years of questionable marketing.

If Microsoft didn't want anybody making fun of Vista then they shouldn't have released it.

You've come to a sad sad realization, Cancel or Allow ?

I was once a Windows user and found Macs somewhat alien, but I remember very clearly the point at which I well and truly became a switcher. It was circa late 2004 (when the iMacs still had round white bottoms), when Apple's advertising campaign focused on how Mac OS X was built on a solid, stable UNIX foundation, and how Macs offered a simple, reliable computing experience that just let you get things done with your computer (without it constantly crashing). In other words, no one had to tell me how much Windows sucked - I knew that already from struggling with the brick of a PC I'd been using at the time! - but Apple actually coming out and saying how much better their machines were just made something click in my head, and shortly thereafter I bought my first Mac. So I kind of echo the sentiment that some people have about the latest Mac ads - don't bother bashing Vista. People who don't like it probably already know painfully well what's wrong with it. Instead, tell them why your product is better, and they'll switch.

I don't remember Apple ever advertising the UNIX foundation. Do you have any links to these ads which mention UNIX?

At the time, I didn't see those ads online, but printed on large banners in Apple stores. But a little googling revealed the following:
