I'm thinking of getting an iPhone, and I'm wondering about the alarm clock function. I know there are many different alarm sounds built into the phone, but more than the sound itself, what I'm interested in is the volume. Rather than an alarm that just starts screeching away when the proper time comes, I want an alarm that starts out soft and becomes louder and louder until I turn it off. Is that possible on the iPhone? Or is there some application you can download that will make it possible?

You can probably do this in GarageBand.

i.e. You choose a tune to import into GarageBand

Adjust the levels to what you want

export for ringtone.

I think Macworld had an article on how to make a ringtone from GarageBand.

Tom, thanks for the suggestion. It sounds like just the ticket. Now all I need to do is buy an iPhone. . . .
