Thanks Scott.
I just downloaded and I started the flash utility.

It stopped for a long while at 90%, letting me think something went wrong, but after that it rebooted with new firmware.

I want to thank you for this new firmware, it seems to reflect many issues reaised here.

Merry Xmas.

1080p @ 30fps still not working well.

There are improvements, no doubt about that.

When is going to be released the next firmware?

Nic

to ScottWD

Thanks for the new firmware!
Rapid respond on users demand, well done, especially in comparison with other vendors.

a fly in the ointment:

the MTS files from AVCHD camcorder with 1920x1080 Full HD format with a max 17 Mbit/sec bit rate are playing unstable :(

sometimes video crumble away by green squares :( after that to resolve normal playback even for normal files, need to switch off

is that because the bit rate so high or just subject to fix in next firmware??

Regards,
Kair

Hi, I've bought this product right away when it was available, although I already had a "TVIX M-6500A" which is considered a reference HD multimedia player.

I must say that the interface is quite slick, but the support and handling of HD files could be a lot better. I've tried an array of MKV's and TS files and found still a lot of buggy playback of high bitrate files.

Also, support for ISO/VOB files with NO menu's leaves a lot to be desired. I must say I'm a bit disappointed with this new firmware (I expected more), but I know the potential is great ... it's all about the firmware !!!

ScottWD,

Thanks so much for reading actual feedback from users. I purchased one of these for my non-techie fiance, and being able to browse our movie collection with a remote has been a godsend. Saw the new firmware was out the day after xmas and grabbed it. It solved my main issue right away, the inability to turn the WD back on after it had gone to sleep. And the one movie it wouldn't play at first, a 1080P WMV file, played beautifully after the 1.01 udpate.

Thank you for a great and affordable product! Can't wait for 1.02.

Hi Scott, and thanks for the firmware update!

Addition of .TS support is great.

I have 2 things to add to the wishlist;

* In List-view; Page Up/Down by using arrow left/right (takes a long time to scroll only one file at a time)

* Some way of marking videos as viewed, and/or mark them for deletion (that I can access when the disk is connected to my computer again)

Great product!

Hi Scott

This does indeed seem to be a really fantastic product …

I have a rather large database of both audio & video files that
are "locked away" in my Mac, and don't really get used as often as they
should be, based primaarily because my Home Entertainment Center has no
link to the files.

Only one issue — I am in South Africa & have not been able to find any supplier that is carrying the unit.
Where / when will it be here?

I am very keen to get a "test drive" on one of these uinits …
Perhaps, Scott if there is a "demo unit" somewhere here in S.A. I may be very easily convinced to take one home - the same day as "having a quick demo" wherever that may be.

FW update fixed my issue with non-supported subtitles in .MKV files. But special characters are still a problem. I use czech subtitles very often and it's almost un-watchable. I think this problem is really easy to fix. So I would really appreciate (and I think all non-US customers would) if you fix this one in new FW updata. Which I hope you'll realese soon.
Thanks

EDIT:

I've seen you added encoding settings in System. But mostly there're some asian and then greek and cyrillic settings. What I'm looking for is Central Europe. Hope you'll add it soon.

One more vote for CE and EE font support.

Updated FW does make WD TV better.

m.

Scott,

Are there plans to support menu navigation during playback of DVD ISOs? This is very important to me as well as others and has been mentioned countless times in dicussions of this product.

Looking fwd to hearing from you about this issue,
Gary

I think the WD tv looks pretty sweet!

Since it has no ethernet connection, couldn't you use a networked hard drive, and plug the WDTV into the hard drive via USB? That way you could drop the folders from your computer onto the HD wirelessly, and they would go right to the WDTV

just my 2 cents

So could you hook this box to an OWC mac mini companion hard drive that is also a usb hub, and also connect the drive to a mac mini at the same time? I want to be able to record shows using an eyetv hooked to my mac mini on a separate hard drive, and use this box to stream the results to our plasma tv. I don't want to unhook the external HD from the mini, then plug it into the WD box. Just looking for a seemless solution.

I'm very frustrated with this thing. The main purpose for the device for me was to be able to play AVCHD footage from my new Sony Camcorder that I have archived on a external hard drive. Sounded like the perfect solution! Unfortunately, as others have noted, it will not play or even recognize .MTS files! How do you convert those files to the files you mention? It also will not play .mov files (the quicktime files that iMovie converts the camcorder video into), and although it will play video_TS folders, it will not play them as the movie experience we get on a DVD. If it won't do these things reliably, what is the point of it for Mac users? Worst of all they present this as a solution for this, which is really deceptive. Clearly not ready for prime time. Of course, all of the above discussions about spotty and seemingly unpredictable performance underscore the difficulties of designing something cross-platform and sending it to market too soon. If Apple did this, they would be roasted.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
