Thanks for this tip! That was easy - now I can watch all my HD movies from Canon HG10 camcorder and they look awesome in full 1080p. I did not rename them though - I wanted to preserve the original state of the AVCHD/BDMV/ folder so I made links to original files with new M2TS extension. Soft links did not work so I made hard links and WD TV is happy with them. This also prompted me to sort and catalog the videos with new names and date-based folder structure (iPhoto-style). With hard links I have the freedom of renaming the videos and still preserving the original structure from camcorder hard drive.
I hope the firmware fix in the near future will take care this oversight but until then the hard link solution will work for me. Playing the clips one after another without interruption is highly desirable too.

You can make hard links in Terminal using "ln" command. But in order to simplify it and make faster I created an OnMyCommand description (below). You may copy the plist below, paste in text editor, save as plist file and drag on OMCEdit to add to your commands. Then, you select your .mts files in Finder, control-click for contextual menu and choose "Make M2TS Hard Links". Next you are prompted to select a destination folder (must be on the same hard drive volume for hard links!) and that's it. You can get OnMyCommand at:

Hello Scott,

I just buy this lovely machine yesterday. Since I live in Taiwan and I am not ood in listening to English, so you know the subtitle function is really important to me. The subtitle function is fine, it supports UTF-8, so no problem for Chinese. But just one small problem, is it possile to adjust the font position? Now it is a little too "high" and the space between two lines is too big!

Thanks!

For those looking for a way to add cover art, I found a metadata editor in some apple support discussions:

LOL... No, I wasn't scared away. I've been busy with the product launch and getting ready for the firmware update. I've got great feedback from the community -- Thank you all!!

I've captured everyone's comments and requests. Be on the lookout for an update soon.

More Cover Art/Thumbnail stuff.

After re-reading the manual, it does not seem that Cover Art for WKV files is supported. Reference APPENDIX ? 69.

It does seem for most MP4 type files, it is supported in the same manner iTunes implements metadata.

So, add cover art in iTunes or a program like MetaX http://www.kerstette...e54/page54.html

Maybe the WD guy hanging out can let us know if there is way to add cover art for other formats like MKV coming soon.

Love the box, I also have iStar NMT so I have smth to compare with. Nice design/interface and most importantly played every mkv I tried so far. However, I noticed that at least in two of the mkvs I tried switching audio track to the 2nd one gives me choppy sound - it disappears every 5 seconds for a second. This is not good. It's definitely WD TV's fault as e.g. VLC plays the same files fine

ScottWD,
Thanks for all your support on this site. It's great seeing people like you paying attention to customers with the goal of enhancing the product. My loyalty to WD has been enhanced because of you. I am really looking forward to the firmware update. I think this has been mentioned, but hopefully it is on your list. When I start a movie, I have to Zoom In, then Zoom Out for the video to resize to my TV properly. Since it resizes properly after I do that, hopefully this will be an easy fix.
Thanks!

Hello ScottWD,

I do believe in your products.
I bougtht WD TV but I still have TViX 6500. It has the same chipset as WD TV... sigma design...
In the following I will try to summarize few critical things that WD TV does not have:

1. Missing volume control on the remote; very bad. I have to use a second remote in order to control the sound.

2. During .iso play, when you press next it is jumping to the next file on HDD. I was expecting to jump to the next chapter.

3. There is no way to browse through DVD disc menus.

4. I have a Sony CRT. For 16/9 movies... WDTV does not display the whole image. I noticed that by using pan option. When you try to zomm out a little bit... surprise: it goes direct to 1/2 of original image. Completely useless... it is to small.

5. For 1080p, there are issues. I do not know what kind of 1080p it was... but it does not decode well all the time. I will check and I will get back with details. 720p is working very fine.

I hope these observations will hep you.

Regards,
Nic
