Hi. Im having a problem as well playing MKV files in DTS using optical out. The audio drops for half a second every 10-15 seconds. Why is that? It happens on almost all of my MKV files. Other channels (stereo, 5.1..) work great except for DTS which regularly drops audio.

yeah let's hope they include that fix with the DTS drop in MKV files. For now, I am able to get DTS with no drop when I remux MKV to M2TS so at least there's an alternative. Downside is that M2TS has larger file size than MKV.

I used tsMuxeR. you can get it from here:

www.smlabs.net/tsMuxer/tsMuxeR_1.3.1.zip

just unzip, run the txmuxergui then choose m2ts as output, save then start. It works pretty well for me. My old single core centrino laptop does an 8gb movie in 15 minutes although you'll notice that the m2ts would produce a larger file than mkv. I just remuxed the h264 video together with DTS 6 channel audio and unchecked everything else like the 2 channel audio thats usually in the mkv since i dont need it anyway, it will save space. But im still keeping a copy of the MKV in case WD firmware would fix the issue, then I wont have to do the m2ts. enjoy!

Khel: I thought WD plays only 2 channel. In fact i didnt bcos of this. But you are saying it plays 5.1 DTS.

I have Philips HTB capable of Dolby, Dolby II, and DTS. So if i have a movie encoded in H268 with 1080p and DTS sound track, are you saying it will play as DTS 5.1 and not the stupid 2 channel?

madbullram,

yes, it play 5.1 sound / DTS etc. the WD player has two types of outputs at the back. One is stereo (red&white socket) and the other is digital optical out (toslink) for DTS/5.1digital sound. The default setting is set to stereo, you only have to change it to digital in the settings section of the WD player then you're good to go. Remember that WD player does not have any DTS/dolby decoder in it. The optical out only works as a passthrough so your receiver should have decoder in it which I believe it does according to what you said about your philips system.

hotdeal13,

sorry about that man, i am unaware of that profile and havent encountered that problem yet with my movies.
