Hi all. two issues with the new version of os x. first, i couldn't figure out how to import my contacts from entourage (for os x) to the address book. i can't imagine that this importing isn't enabled, so what am i missing?

secondly, it seems that the scheduled sleep and wake-up option is no longer in the energy saver preferences. can that be? seems a step back, from a user-friendliness point of view. can anyone offer any advice on getting my computer to sleep/wake automatically with 10.2.2? thanks.

There are two ways to import contacts to the Address Book from MS Office's Entourage.

There's an AppleScript in the /Library/Scrips/"Mail Scripts" folder. Just double-click and click run, I think.

Or, you can drag-n-drop to be more selective:

Launch both Entourage v.X and the Address Book.
Set Entourage to view its Address Book.
Select the contacts you wish to transfer in Entourage's list pane (upper-right pane).
Click and drag the selected contacts into the Address Book application's Name list pane.
They'll get transfered.

What's happening is Entourage is making a VCard file for each contact, and Address Book is importing it. If you want, you can also drop the Entourage contacts into a Finder folder - one file will be created for each Contact (since that could be a lot of files, it's probably best to drop them into an empty folder you made for that purpose and not onto the Desktop.) You can then drag and drop the files into Address Book (or back into Entourage.)

The transfer of contacts works both ways, so you can move items from Address Book back to Entourage with the same technique.

Entourage can also export mail to .mbox and .eml files with drag-and-drop to the Finder, but the OS X Mail app doesn't import the MBox format, so this is only useful for archiving Entourage mail (or transfering it between versions or installations of Entourage or between Entourage identities.)

OS X has never had a scheduled wakup option. You can select how much time passes before the computer goes to sleep in the Energy Saver preferences.

actually, unless i'm COMPLETELY delusional (a possibility, frankly), there was a scheduled wake-up option in the earlier version of os x i was using prior to the upgrade to jaguar. my problem is that i want to use an alarm clock that wakes me with music (from itunes). but the computer is too noisy all night if i don't let it sleep. but if it's sleeping, the alarm clock function won't kick in. so no music in the morning. any ideas on getting around this? thanks in advance.
