No one seems to be pointing out the obvious, this aoo would be killer if it did a voice search of contacts. I think the functionaluty it has now is awesome, but if saying a name pulled up a contact as well, wow. We'd be so much further ahead. guess i'll wait another 4 months for that to be implemented.

Only one other post looking this gift horse in the mouth?
This is sweet little app which bodes a huge paradigm shift, putting the iPhone even farther ahead of the competition.
It's fast on wifi. Haven't tried it on Edge yet.

yep, that's me. I feel as though it took away functionality, while pulling off it's beels and whistles. Call me ungrateful, but it would be great if it included the contact search in the voice prompt mode.

i think the app works pretty good. When ever im in the car you can still talk to it and it will still pick out your voice from all the feedback from the car. It works just fine on edge to. Even with a cauple of bars. This isnt the only voice recognition app thats came out from google to iphone. It also will release a voice recogniton maping app. Just talk to the phone "take me to the nearest burger king" and it will map you with the gps. Its expected to come out the same day as 2.2 iphone firmware. As i hope it does. just to make my day better

I'm disappointed that the voice function doesn't work with the second-gen iPod Touch (with a mic attached, of course).

The voice function is supposed to work fine with the 2nd gen Touch (with a mic headset) from what i've heard... yikes!

Anyone out there have experience using this with 2nd gen touch?

When I go to the settings screen voice search is grayed out and the text below it says "Voice Search is only available for iPhone".

I have a Griffin SmartTalk mic (which I would heartily recommend to anyone!) instead of an Apple one (since theirs isn't even released yet), but I don't see how that should make a difference.

Edit:

The official Google Mobile blog states that the voice search is only available for iPhone. Bummer :(

Hi: The app "Say Who" will give you voice recognition for your contacts!

Works great when I have it mounted in my car bracket and it's about 2.5+ feet away from my mouth. I too would love the Google app to search contacts-- AND dial the number if I gave a voice command. Why access a different app for every function?
