I'm pretty disappointed that none of the new maps features made it into the iPod touch software because of that same old Sarbanes-Oxley accounting BS again. There's not even an option to pay for it. We're basically screwed until the next update, I guess -- which is ridiculous, if that's the case.

There's also no Emoji in the Japanese keyboard settings (it seems you only get this if you have an iPhone with one of the three carriers in Japan -- apparently they assume that nobody who lives outside of Japan would want to communicate with anyone there). The Japanese support also still doesn't include a handwriting recognition mode, even though it would be essentially the same as the Chinese one (the characters are a mostly-identical subset of traditional Chinese ones).

Essentially, if you have an iPod touch, all you get with this update is a slightly different address bar in Safari (which is worse than the old one IMO), the ability to press the home button to return to the first home screen, and a slightly improved App Store (other than the fact that app updates aren't working at all now, because everyone is hammering the store for the update).

Oh, and you can download Podcasts directly on it, which is useless to me.

Lame.

Does the podcast dowload only work with Wi-FI and not Edge? I would assume so, since the existing iTunes app requires Wi-FI (on my edge iPhone)

As an iPod Touch user, I am also thoroughly disappointed about the lack of new Maps functionality. This was the feature I was most looking forward to and now I don't have it.

This apple "accounting" stuff is really getting annoying...

Very disappointing update. You can't update your subscribed podcasts directly. You have to find them in the iTunes store and then download them. I still can't use Bluetooth stereo headphones with the iPhone. Still no MMS. No copy/paste. Email is still slow. I give this upgrade a "D."

Why does it seem the Ipod Touch is always left out of the headlines?
Not good enough for mention?
Also, I guess no charge for the iPod touch upgrade?
Jim
After reading the rest of the posts I can see why there is no charge for this upgrade.
Not much of an upgrade for the Touch anyway it seems.

1. "iPhone and iPod Touch" takes up a lot of space

2. There are more iPhones out there than iPod Touches

3. The OS first debuted on the iPhone, so people think of it as the iPhone OS

4. When I first wrote this story and gave it the headline, I didn't have independent confirmation of the iPod touch release - I don't have a touch at home so I couldn't test it.

It's not just you, it seems everywhere.
It just makes it more difficult to find out if the update(s) also apply to the iPod Touch.

Thanks for replying.

What about being able to send and receive photos via SMS? I love my iPhone, but am really bummed that I have to log onto a website and use a funky username/password to see a photo a friend has sent from their phone. And most of the time this does not work. The iPhone can do everything else... why not SMS pictures?

What I wanted it to say this morning was:

It could be nice to a have demo for a period of time to be able to try products, or to have an X day-payment back guarantee like other software vendors.

It could be also nice to try several similar products before choosing the one that we would like to use.

Thanks.

Please note that it is possible to return Photoshop: Please read the Abode return policy in their website.

Re: Including the iPod Touch in updates and stories. Many of us live in the areas (even in the U.S.) that AT&T does provide service. All we can get and make use of is the iPod Touch.

When updating, watch the screen. There's a progress bar instead of a spinning wheel.

Does the Touch have constant connection to maps without phone service? If not, woudln't seem much point in putting walking directions on it?

Thank You, I will try the Papi Jump Cave. I'd be nice to see some more 2D scrollers for that old school fun. I'll have to check in on the docking capabilities. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving
