From what I've seen, even though Mac The Ripper reports bad blocks (and it takes three times as long to process a disc), the resulting VIDEO_TS file still seems to work fine in Handbrake.
HandBrake update works with more video files

you would have to specify a movie for me to let you know.
Remember, AnyDVD has never failed for me (I update whenever new versions are released--usually everytime I run it).
Disney, Pixar, and the like are my primary focus since the Apple TV is for my daughter.

I have given up with handbrake I just don't know what the fuss is about. Of the 6 dvds I have tried tonight only 2 have worked, the others have either taken an hour and a half to give you 4 minutes of green mess or you get the company name then nothing.
What on XP does this better, there must be something.

Handbrake has never failed to work for me IF I am running it against a hard drive based DVD rip performed by AnyDVD.
I never use Handbrake to rip a DVD directly because it's only going to work a small percentage of the time (when ripping current DVDs).
So use AnyDVD (PC) to rip, then use Handbrake (Mac) to encode.
As a side note, I tried the PC version of Handbrake, but it was not very impressive.

With all due respect--you're crazy.
Every day, new DVDs add more and more tweaks to their protection schemes. The old AnyDVD dealt with the old schemes so-so, and it certainly won't be able to rip the new ones. Unless your intention is to rip movies from the 1990s, you need AnyDVD.
I just ripped a bunch of new movies--and they all worked perfectly in the new Handbrake using the Apple TV preset.
