"Apple’s Mini DisplayPort, which prevents HD content from being played on non-HDCP compliant displays" -- and SD content too, presumably, or this update wouldn't be necessary.

It also fixed the problem with HD TV shows. Now HD TV shows work fine on a VGA screen. Since Apple doesn't sell HD movies for computers (just for AppleTV) the new MacBooks now have the exact same functionality as the old MacBooks.

The HDCP setting on SD movies and HD TV was obviously an unintentional bug. Apple isn't going to make their new MacBooks have less functionality than their old ones. That should be obvious to anyone.

The added advantage of the new Display Port is that in the future, Apple can now make HD movies available to anyone with newer hardware (a new MacBook and an HDCP enabled display) and meet the movie industry's (stupid) requirements.
