Isn't Tim the one who can summon fire without flint or tinder?

Perhaps "Tim" is "Time" that has not been faithfully backed up?

Actually, this is intentional -- Tim stops by the house every 15 minutes or so to back up the computer. I've found he overstays his welcome, though -- and has completely cleared out my beer 'fridge. :)

Isn't Tim the one who will warn us about the killer rabbit?
Uh oh!

Did they fix the issue where Time Capsule is way overpriced?

I thought the most interesting "over the hood" change was in giving the trackpad its own preference pane.

Both Mrs. Cholula and I experienced installing 10.5.6 on our new iMac's. It just hangs up forever at the "Configuring Installation" level. And we've never had a problem installing any updates in the past.
Hoping that Apple or someone here posts a solution/suggestion.

My Mac Mini has been hanging with the 10.5.6 update for well over an hour. I guess I will do what others have done and just power off and wait for Apple to come up with a fixed version of this update. Just hope there is no danger of wiping out my hard drive by doing this :-(

Same problem here. I let it sit on "Configuring Installation" for about 15-20 minutes before forcing a restart.
Same problem when attempted again. Using a MacBookPro2,2.
I ended up downloading the update from Apple's web site and ran the installer myself.
It displayed "Configuring Installation" for a minute or two then moved on.
Total install time was about 15 minutes plus an extended reboot period afterwards.
Is it just me or is it inherently wrong to install this version when Software Update is unsuccessful in its attempt. :-)

I ordinarily would not reply to my own post, but it turns out there is a lot of activity on discussions.apple.com on the issue of the 10.5.6 install process hanging on various types of Macs. Several contributors suggested downloading and manually installing the full update from Apple support, rather than going through the Software Update process. The file can be found at:

http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOSX10-5-6Update

I downloaded this file (372MB) and installed it without incident on the same MacBook where the Software Update install had failed twice. Note that there were several suggestions to repair permissions prior to installing the update but it's not clear whether permission problems had anything to do with the issue (I repaired permissions prior to manually installing the update just in case).

For those experiencing a hang up on restart, this seems to be pretty common. Someone on MacRumors found out that he had a smaller update file than he should have. There seems to be an errant EOF that fools Software Update into thinking it has a complete download.

Some people had success on removing the bad update file and reinstalling the update from Software Update, but others had problems several times in a row.

The only real fix is to restart, then download and install the Combo updater from http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOSX1056Combo_Update

Yes, it's 669MB, but that beats multiple 380MB downloads that fail to work.

Edit: Sorry critchie, I should have read to the end of the thread ... but I'd download the Combo updater (for updates from 10.5.1-10.5.5 -> 10.5.6) rather than the 10.5.6 updater (from 10.5.5 -> 10.5.6) ... if only to back it up in case I need to reinstall Leopard on one of my Macs.

I've made it standard practice to download the combo updater and manually install. NEVER use Software Update for system updates. It's become way too risky.
