How many times does Quicken get to promise that the magical 'next version' will be the one that matches the Windows version in features and works properly, and when it finally ships (invariably long overdue), it neither is even close in feature parity to the Windows version nor is it particularly bug free?
Quicken has done this with EVERY version they have released. Hell, Apple has someone from Quicken on their board of director's and it hasn't made a difference.
Hell, instead of, you know, competing, in Canada, based on price, support and features, for which they were being totally kicked (particularly on Features, Price and Support), they determined it was cheaper for them to NOT compete with AccountEdge, bought out the rights for Canada from AccountEdge (preventing it's sale in Canada anymore), and promptly got both more expense AND provided even worse support than before.
And don't forget their totally lame gouging of banks to enable "Mac" support, where they charge the bank double for the "ability" to send the exact same data to a Mac instead of a PC.
The world would be a better place if everybody stopped buying their half-assed software and Quicken then went out of business.

It's too bad that even with the "Quicken drought" there remains no decent alternatives for the Mac. I've looked at iBank and MoneyDance, but the last I checked, they just weren't very polished. And (probably because of Quicken) there were very cumbersome to update with recent transactions.

I was a long time Quicken user on the Windows side and Quicken/Canada was already going downhill there with a couple banks dropping automatic download support. Then I switched to Mac and discovered that Quicken has zero support for a Cdn Mac version and said bye bye Quicken.
I now use Checkbook Pro. It's a 'good enough' replacement for me. No automatic downloading but I was getting used to that anyways.

I can't speak about downloading, as I prefer reconciling with my statement, but I've used Moneydance for years and Quicken before that, and have to say Moneydance wins hands-down for me. I think it's always been pretty polished, though initially had default java, rather than Mac OS, windows/buttons. That's changed recently and I think it has a more Mac OS look/feel now.

I've used MoneyDance for 4-5 years and am very happy with it. Waiting for them to release an iPhone app to compliment it. I've never been comfortable with Quicken even the Win additions.

Quicken for Mac 2007 finally irritated me enough to the point where I decided to try out iBank. I haven't been too happy with it, either. Like was mentioned above, the importing transactions is just a nightmare.
Here's hoping summer 2009 comes quicken-ly!

I hope they figure out how to transfer investment account info without losing historical data, that's the only thing that keeps me going into bootcamp to run the windows version of this buggy program.

You should try MoneyDance. It's importing feature is effortless. Virtually 1 click and your new transactions are downloaded for your review. One of the reasons I like it.

I really find it odd that Intuit has taken so long to update this app. Given that Quicken 2007 was a rather unpolished money grab. There are so many other programs that do similar things that I hope Intuit with its deep pockets really makes a new program that rocks. Unfortunately I think that is a pipe dream. I moved over to Mint. It is far superior. It is smarter and faster than Quicken ever thought it could be. Sorry Quicken, you burned me twice (2007, and Quicken 2008 or excuse me 2009, summer of love or is that fall in love, VAPORWARE AWARD). Yes I nominate Quicken to replace "Duke Nukem Forever" as the new vaporware for macs.

I'm frustrated too. And with 2009 just two days away and Snow Leopard coming in the Spring (??) I've started looking for options to Quicken.
I've started playing with Gnucash. It's definitely not easy for the novice to install (I used MacPorts) but progress is being made for a Mac package. It can't hurt for more of us to show interest.

Does the import keep stock splits, and original purchase dates and stuff like that? I haven't found a program that has yet been able to do that, if it does, I'm game to give it a try.

You may like to investigate Budget by Snowmint Creative Solutions: http://www.snowmintcs.com/. It is a large shift in thinking from the premise of Quicken (which I have used for years).

Budget uses icons of envelopes! Perhaps you know of the envelope method of budgeting--actually putting $$$ into labeled envelopes (budget items) and paying bills from those envelopes. When the money is gone, you're done spending from that budget item.

You can download transactions, too. It's important up front to understand the way the software works because it's an active tool instead of an after-the-fact tool like Quicken. (I also like Budget because it is more like a Mac app--icons, friendly interfaces, engaging, intelligent!)

Snowmint allows a free download for trying the software.

Good luck. I have been very frustrated with Q for Mac lack of support and costly updates. Budget makes you think about your money; I guess that's why it's called Budget and not Banking.

As a small business owner (consultant) and someone who is very aggressive with his tax planning, I have given up on finding good financial software for my Mac. There never has been parity between Mac and Windows in this area of software, and it appears there never will be. Especially on the "higher end" of the spectrum: Quicken Home & Business Edition and Quickbooks.
Therefore, I have resigned myself to maintain a separate Parallels VM dedicated to my Financial Software (Windows XP with Quicken Premier Home & Business and TurboTax). It works fine, and the one upside to this setup is I have all my financial info "partitioned" on to this one VM HD image on my Mac. This allows me to take full snapshots of my finances and taxes for each year at tax time, and archive them to DVD. If I ever get audited, I can simply restore the image and have a running copy for review.
