I'm really glad he decided to break the silence on this. Of course, had he come out with a statement prior to this, he wouldn't have been able to say much except that he was losing weight and didn't know why, which I think would have been even worse for rumors. At least now, he can say something definitive, as in "no, Im not dying"
Yes, we will support you Steve. Get better soon.

It's certainly promising news that this appears to be very treatable. Still, while Jobs says he will always put what's best for Apple first, for my part, I think he should always put what is best for himself and his family first. Apple is secondary to that.

I have a few recipes that will bring his weight back fast. But then, he'd have to eat meat. :p
I hope this helps people realize what a bad site Gizmodo is in terms of reportage. They ban commenters who dare to criticize them for boorish behavior at trade shows, they keep breaking stories with no connection to reality. It's time someone organize a boycott of that lame site and it's boorish founder.

Steve - give Michael Phelps a call. I hear he knows how to pack-in about 14,000 calories a day. That ought to about do it.
Glad to know you'll be getting back to fighting weight soon. You'll need to have plenty of energy to fight off the Windows 7 media blitz campaign, unless, of course, you have a little trick up your sleeve. ;)

Here here. God Bless and get that weight back on soon.
I hope you realise just how supremely grateful we all are for what you have given to this community.
If the world implodes, the bit I will fight hardest for -after my family- is Apple. I won't be alone in that I'm sure!

It is good to hear at least the surface of the truth come out. And, quite frankly, it is probably all of the story we need to hear. While there may be more to it, we should respect Steve's right to privacy in his personal life and in regard to his medical issues, the same as we would expect if we were in his shoes.
I am someone who has been highly critical about the complete secrecy only because of how much I love this computer company and did not want the unknown path of transition to hurt it continued robust health. Of course, we in the Apple user community, even though we at times have a love-angst relationship with our feelings towards Steve, are beholden to him for having first built the company with his co-founder the Woz and then later bringing the company back to life after he was forced out and the interim CEOs all but put it on life support while he was off creating the underpinnings for OS X and the now never unsuccessful Pixar entertainment company.
None of us wish anything but Steve a hopeful recovery and that he will many more years of directing Apple's continued enormous success and extreme profitability while all other computer companies scramble to sell less than second-rate products at barely profitable prices, just to barely in or out of the red and count their successes in units sold.

My understanding is that he has an endocrine (hormonal) pancreatic cancer, for which he has already been treated.
If he now has an hormonal imbalance to the degree he is losing weight, and is receiving additional salvage treatment, then he has a serious recurrence and will not live much longer. It is great he has the dedication to work until the end.

Hormone imbalances are often missed with traditional blood tests, saliva tests are much more sensitive in many cases for diagnosis and to follow response to therapy. IN addition, supplements can be very helpful in cases such as adrenal fatigue and other hormone imbalances. E Runte M.D.
