I honestly lost track of all the renamings and shuffles going on at Palm, but my (maybe wrong) understanding is, that Palm split into PalmOne and Palm Source at some point in the past. It was Palm Source that acquired BeOS in 2001 (?) and it was supposed to be used for the Cobalt OS which was discontinued (in 2004?). Down the line PalmOne became Palm Inc. again and Palm Source was sold to ACCESS, so in theory ACCESS and not Palm should be the owner of BeOS.

If the palm one had come out in Canada (which is at times a few months behind US releases for phones anyhow) I might not have gotten a iPhone...
Before the iphone I went Palm handheld plus a basic cell phone... Would have gone treo but i liked my tx far better with it's big screen. The iphone is nifty with it's app store course there are still plenty of palm apps around but where Palm has always stepped up in my mind is it's superior user interface (copy and paste anyone?) which allows for sorting applications into categories such as games mutlimedia - you can set the categories up yourself.
IF the Palm had been out in time it would have been a tough choice for me.

Well, now that the "Pre" has landed, it does at least look a lot better than any other iPhone killer so far. Too early to say something about the OS, but it does look nice: http://www.engadget....8/the-palm-pre/

I like the wireless charger and the design, I am less confident about that keyboard though...

P.S. Shipping in the "first half of 2009"... not too specific (June 30th?)
