I love my iMac and I was disappointed that Mac was left out of Picasa when I switched to Mac from Vista last year. I just gave up trying to understand iPhoto. So, I've been waiting for this day! Loaded up the image file and it works smooth and perfect just as I expected. Picasa for Mac grabbed all my images in less than a couple minutes and I was able to grasp how the app works without any instructions. I can't wait to start sharing. Thanks Google.

Your "reporters" might want to a little research before adding their names to someone else's press release. Picassa for Mac has been available for over a year. I've been running it on a G4 laptop in Tiger.
No, you're thinking of the Picasa Web Albums uploader. Mr. Pot, meet Mr. Kettle.

Sorry for posting so many in a row, but there is no way to edit posts.
"Google on Monday afternoon released a public beta of its Picasa for Mac desktop software for organizing, editing, and uploading photos."
So, it IS a desktop app. Where can I get it?

Follow the fixed link at the beginning of the story and you'll be able to download it now.

I have tried it twice now, using the provided links and on my own and it only downloads the web album uploader for me. Who and how exactly is getting the app itself?? Any link or help with that will be appreciated, thanks
The first link in the story should take you to a download page, but click here to access the page direcly. Then click on "Download Picasa for Mac (Beta)" and you should be set.

Finally! I will also throw my hat in as a Windows user who misses Picasa on the Mac. And for those that claim to have run it for a year already on a G4...that's because you were using the Picasa Web Uploader, not Picasa itself. HUGE difference between the two. Back to setting up Picasa...

The link itself seems to be hit or miss (it probably depends on your physical location, and which google machine you happen to be connected to when you access the page). It took more than 4 tries for me, before I got the App instead of the Uploader when clicking the Download button.
And just playing with the App now, I have no idea why they decided against using, you know, standard scrollbars instead of the wacky implementation for a scrollbar in there now. It just feels wrong when I use it.
