Ah yes, coding. One of the strengths of Microsoft.
I have been told that many banks run MS software on their ATMs. A new world economic catastrophe brewing?

days = 0 instead of days -= 366 or 365 would've done the job.

This article is somewhat misleading. It was actually a driver created by Toshiba that caused the problem, which incidentally also hit the Toshiba Gigabeat S30 and S60. The first gen Zune is just a rebranded and redesigned Toshiba design.

I think days starts out as the number of days since 1/1/1980, so if you just set it to zero, you'd only go thru the loop once, and never get past 1981.

But shouldn't those comparisons be greater-than instead of less-than?

This code HAS to be bogus, and for this reason:
ORIGINYEAR is set to a constant "1980", sounds good.
But then the variable 'year' is assigned (set) to this same value, oh dear!
Thus this code only check to see if 1980 was a leap year, which of course it was.
This code, as published, NEVER checks if the current year is a leap of not!
Moreover, this code NEVER returns a return-value, which should/would have been caught by the compiler.
Nice try but, if you are going to invent this rubbish, at least get the basics correct.

The less than's (<) are wrong. In the originally code they are "greater than" (>) and then you have the inifite loop in a leap year such as 2008.

you know what? I'm just really, really, REALLY glad it was Zunes and not 747's that stopped responding...
Kinda scary, though.

MadAxeMan,

this is a CODE SNIPPET. the fact there is no closing brace shows this. It is likely there is a return not shown. The variable year is modified inside the while loop so the code is doing a check.

Covering "Zune News" = waste of bandwidth, pure and simple... especially on a Mac-centric site. Most PC users don't even care about Zune so why would Mac users care, other than to make fun of MS?
