I'm sorry, but batteries MUST be removable -- full stop. I cannot accept that a minimalist design aesthetic cannot be achieved unless Apple forgoes this feature for its customers.
I assume the screen of the MacBook Pro 17" will no longer be available in matte -- correct?
All things considered, and the foregoing comments aside, this looks to be an impressive offering from Apple.
A pity Apple could not offer a refreshed iMac line at this time but I'm sure that will be coming later this year.

I was kind of wondering - after the Keynote commentator's remark - whether the RAM would be user-serviceable or not and then I finally realized: Hey, if you can afford to buy one of those puppies in the first place you can probably also afford to have the RAM replaced by Apple.
Ditto for the battery...

Well, according to Apple's description, it is a "matte" viewing experience (!):
About glossy and antiglare
Choose the glossy widescreen display to make your graphics, photos, and videos appear with richer colours and deeper blacks — great for watching DVD movies. If you prefer a display with antiglare coating for a matte rather than glossy viewing experience, choose the antiglare widescreen display.
I'm glad they've added it - if it works well, that is - but sorry to see that they're charging more for it.

Ditto for the battery...True, but you also have to factor in the cost of not having your laptop for however long it takes. I've been meaning to upgrade the hard drive on my 15" MacBook Pro, but haven't gotten around to it because it would require it to be in the shop for at least a day and I would have to make trips to drop it off and pick it up. So instead I've been deleting stuff and moving stuff to my external hard drive that I will probably regret not having easy access to some day (when not at home).

In case people have missed it: The "anti-glare" option is an entirely different top lid (no black funeral border, no glass plate) as can be seen in when clicking on the thumbnail gallery here: http://www.apple.com...res-17inch.html - which makes it the only remaining beautiful MBP. Let's hope for that good trend to move down to the 15" model.

Overall: Decent, though unimpressive, upgrade.
1) Unclear (no pun) whether "anti-glare" is glass or plastic. There's some really impressive anti-glare glass out there used primarily for picture framing.
2) It would be preferable if glare was the option. I can see Apple doing quite a bit of screen swopping. Nevertheless, having some method to decrease glare (even if it cost more) is appreciated.
3) We are used to removable batteries. Yet the longer battery life is worth the tradeoff.
4) Still no number pad on the 17 incher?
