I've been using Stage Hand since the app store opened. It's more expensive ($7.99), but it does soo much more (e.g., spotlighting on a slide or the entire slide). As a professor, I rely on this constantly. Considering that the Apple version is very basic, I would recommend Stage Hand for people who do a lot of presentations. (Also, it's been constantly updated since Day 1, so you know you're probably going to continue getting more and more features for your $$.) (And no, I'm not affiliated with the company.)

I have written a little hands on with the remote and I have to say I think it works really well. I have been looking for something like this for ages. I am slightly nervous about relying on a wifi connection (I know I shouldn't be) but it really works. http://www.digmo.co....keynote-remote/

This is pretty lame, actually. I don't want to have a remote on the iPhone/Touch. I've got a remote that works fine. I want to be able to load the presentation on the iP/T and deliver it wirelessly to the data projector (need to have a wireless transceiver dongle for the projector until the companies start making them with wireless interfaces). I don't want to carry the laptop to class any more. This is a no brainer. And it's the kind of thing I expect from Apple. No new technology required. Just implement it for crying out loud. You'll sell an iP/T to every prof in the country.

Can anyone verify whether or not this will work in the case where an iPod/iPhone is connected to a computer via internet sharing (for example, while they aren't on the same network per se, a MacBook Pro is sharing an ethernet connection over WiFi, and the iPod is connected to that)?

If you are not on any network and none is available to you, you can turn on Airport on your presentation machine, select "Create Network..." and share your Airport connection to create a private LAN. Connect your iPhone or Touch to that network and open your Keynote Remote app. If you previously linked your Phone or Touch to that copy of Keynote it will find it right away. Be sure to check the "Require Password" box when setting up your network to ensure you keep the likelyhood of miscreants causing problems during your presentation to a minimum. Voila! You can present with your phone as remote out in the woods if you like.
