Don't get too freaked about size. Even the latest copy of Acrobat Reader is almost 250MB.

Well I don't worry much about the size of updates. But for something so insignificant as a few bug fixes that's quite a large fix. Actually this is my first iPhone update so I wasn't aware that the whole OS gets replaced. That makes more logical sense. I couldn't care less whether Apple pushes the whole OS vs. just the update or not. It just didn't make sense to me that some arbitrary bug fixes took so much data. Once explained it makes sense.

As far as comparing Adobe? Get out! Adobe is the king of bloatware.

The update went smoothly for me.
Safari had been crashing fairly often, so that will be good if that's fixed.

does anyone really expect apple to update the phone with all the things that people have been saying it needed? especially when they are testing iphone 2,1 ? why update the old when you can sell the new product?

The 1st generation iPhone has all the (software) functionality of the 3g.

Copy/Cut/Paste, ToDo syncing, improved Bluetooth, MMS...etc. All the features are achievable through software. In fact some of it has already been done with jailbroken phones.

I agree. I dont think I made my statement very clear though. Of course apple could do all these things with software updates. I used to have my phone jailbroken so I had a lot of these features but dropped the jailbroken for 2.2. I was saying why would they update the software for the phone when they could just release a new phone with all the updates on it. It would make more of a profit. They could always add the software to the 3G as well, but they are working on a new phone and why not release all the features people have been craving at the time of that new phone release to give it a bigger bang?

It would be really nice to have the cut/copy/paste feature in the next update!

Its all part of apples marketing bussiness. Of course there not gonna put in cut and paste. Cuz if they do then after that no one is going to be looking forward to it. They know we want it but arnt gonna give it. There gonna come out with it eventually. But prob within the next iPhone release. They have this stuff planed ahead by months. And sometimes years. They know how to work us. Cuz almost all apple users and ecspecially the media. Go nuts over these "updates". So apple knows we will wait instead of switching phones.

Enough with just releasing bug fixes. Where is background push that was offered in 2008? Where are features such as copy/paste, tethering, ability to sync notes with OS X, video recording, enhanced camera app, voice command, voice dial, turn by turn GPS voice navigation. If companies such as RIM, Sony Ericsson and Nokia can offer these features in their smartphones then why can't Apple?

So go buy one of those RIM things if you want those things in a phone. Do you want some cheese with your whine?

These bug fixes are so low on the list of priorities. How about tilting keyboard for text, that would be nice!

Against my better judgement I upgraded. DON'T UPGRADE unless you have to. This the fraking reason I usually don't do thi.

Now my iPhone crashed iTunes with every sync. I'm unable to move photos or music on or off the iPhone. Thankfully my contacts and calendars still sync. What a PITA!!!

False alarm. Solution is at the bottom of the thread. De-authorize and Authorize the computer and everything's back to normal.
