Will it ever be as good as 'Dragon Simply speaking?'.Yes, I know it's for PC users only, but it runs just as well in Parallels, apparently.

I haven't used Dragon for several years, but the current Dictate is better than the earlier versions of Dragon I tested. They are actively adding features to Dictate and making it easier to use. I find it useful.

it's just not on the lev of Dragon. Try getting the program to learn an unusual word: it's impossible.

i would expect this program to improve with this time, but the developers give no indications of their plans. For now i dont think this program would be usable for many people. Maybe some if they were wiling to fiddle with a lot of correcections which defeat the purpose.

The problem with running Dragon - 1. v10 is much much better than macspeech - no competition. 2. you have the additional overhead of running parallels or vmware fusion - both work well with it. 3. you can't use it in mac windows but instead end up having to cut and paste.

There is a workaround available for typing in directly into mac windows - but it degrades the audio quality.

I'm using MacSpeech 1.3 to dictate highlighted passages from books I read, and I am thoroughly impressed. For example, here's a passage that it had no trouble understanding:
"What is propositional knowledge? It takes two forms: one is the observation, classification, measurement, and cataloging of natural phenomena. The other is the establishment of regularities, principles, and natural laws that govern these phenomena and allow us to make sense of them. Useful knowledge includes scientific knowledge as a subset."
It did have problems with names (which I just type in) and I'd agree that training new words is difficult if not impossible (although it handles complicated words like glucocorticoid, epinephrine, and norepinephrine).
For my purposes, this is an easier and more accurate way for me to get my reading notes into the computer. Using a pen scanner was a pain and trying to type and keep the book open is a physical pain.
