I downloaded Safari 4 but after about 4 hours I had to uninstall it because it just keep freezing up and I have to use force quit to get out.
I installed it on an iMac Intel with OS X 10.5?
UPDATE:following advice in these comments,
I uninstalled Safaristand (which I never really used) from Safari 3.0.
Restarted.
Installed Safari 4.0 Beta.
Restarted.
Now it seems to work, thanks guys!

Why do developers still make updates to safari. It's already a bloatware just like firefox and opera ...
A completely baseless comment. Please back it up. Yes, Safari has gained features over its lifetime, but it's still a very "clean" browser in terms of interface. Firefox is trying to mimic this while retaining expandability, and they are just not getting it right. I don't understand any Mac user that "prefers" Firefox. The feel is just wrong.

If you had read the article you would have noted the most significant changes are those under the hood, like the brand new javascript engine that runs 4 times as fast as the current engine. That doesn't sound like bloatware, it sounds like a developer advancing their product. Also, the future of the internet is in HTML 5.0 and CSS 3.0 standards, if no one updated their web browsers we'd still be looking to Hampster dance as the most advanced web page on the planet.

Apple are always very generous with their 'feature' lists. I would say that Top Sites is a great new feature, but only a single feature. Yet Apple detail this as 4 separate features.
Ok, I'm being nit-picky, but I wonder why they always feel the need to come up with such big headline numbers (150 features).

One unfortunate side-effect of Top Sites and Cover Flow in Bookmarks is with forum sites. If you visit forums that auto-mark-read new threads a certain amount of time after your last visit, you'll find that, if you see a site preview in one of the above features and then visit it later in the day, that threads you haven't read are mark as read due to the previous "preview" visit.

Restore the blue progress bar and other settings:

I'm glad there was a setting for the progress bar, was the only thing (so far) really bugging me about the new Safari - otherwise I really like the new changes - and the speed!

I would feel much more comfortable with the tabs - especially now that they have been bizarrely placed at the top of the window - being replaced by thumbnail page icons on the left side. I had long thought Apple would do something like this, but OmniWeb was the first to include this, the most visually informative way of keeping track of open pages. The icons could also carry a little 'x' badge like Apple uses on the pop-up movies and pictures on its site to quickly close the associated page. Mousing over each icon, a translucent black pop-up over the thumbnail would give you the full name and URL at a glance. Once there the thumbnails go beyond the bottom of the window, a scroll bar would appear to scroll down easily to the one you want. I think this would be far more informative, versatile, and compatible with the overall OS X interface, than an Opera-Firefox style "tabs" metaphor.
These sidebar thumbnails could be retained in Top Sites and Bookmark views. Either they could sit in a permanent column at the left side of the page (at least in Top Sites; in Bookmarks, they could sit in a separate section below the bookmarks folders list) or they could slide in from the side of the page when you mouse over them, just like the page thumbnails display in Pages 2009 or the way the Dock can be specified to pop up only when you mouse over the edge of the screen.
It would also be nice, in the "Top Sites" view, to display the page name and URL directly over the relevant page thumbnail as you mouse over it, just like in my suggestion for sidebar thumbnails above. That would be much easier to follow than having to look down to the bottom of the window view to see for sure which one it is in case the thumbnail is ambiguous.
I do wish the Bookmarks view could be made more informative and versatile, like the browsers in iTunes and the Finder. I would love to be able to view sites not only in Cover Flow, but also column, list and icon views, and when I am in icon view, to be able to view grouped page thumbnails, both from the same site and manually grouped together as an alternative to folders - you should be able to specify how you want to view them - by skimming over them, just as you can skim to view albums by a specific artist in iTunes or you can skim over grouped pictures in online iWeb photo albums.
Now, apart from the new tabs at the top of the window, I like the latest innovations in the interface, but I think those kinds of innovations would make the Safari interface even better!
