I also downloaded Safari 4 but I now notice that my Hotmail emails accessed through the browser now freeze up. The delete key, enter key and mouse have no effect although signout and signin work fine.
The freeze effect seems to be limited to Hotmail as my other mail accounts continue to work.
Is this a bug in Safari 4 Beta ?

We've actually released version 2.9.9 of 1Password which adds support for Safari 4 beta and thus no editing of any support files is necessary.

Safari 4 looks nice. I didn't care for the tabs on top so I used the terminal command to put them back as they were in 3.1.2.

Thanks

Yes, Hotmail doesn’t work with this Safari beta, but there were always Hotmail features that didn’t work with Safari. Makes you wonder about Apple vs Microsoft clandestine sabotage—sabotage from either side! Of course, Macworld forum's "Rich Text" never worked in Safari either.

I just found a workaround for the Hotmail issue
Set User Agent on the Developer menu to Firefox. (if you don’t show a Developer menu, select it at the bottom of Safari’s Preferences under the Advanced tab).

I thought I read that Safari 4 now searches the page when you start to type instead of first requiring “Command F”, just like Firefox. Is there a setting I am missing?

CSS 3 and HTML 5 support is nice, still getting used to the rest of the new features. Tabs on top are weird. Don't like the missing loading progress bar. All of these are easy to fix with some terminal work. The 2 main things I feel are missing are there is no way to report a website a a phishing web site. Although there is now support for googles list of phishing web sites, when I come across one I can't do my good deed for the day and report them.
The other thing that is missing for me, and has been missing for a few versions is the is when you hover over a link, the URL needs to be displayed somewhere in the browser window. I want to really know where I am going before I click a link.

In case you weren't aware, you can actually see the link's full URL if you activate the status bar under the View menu. URL's will then appear in the very bottom of Safari. Not sure if that's what you're looking for or not, but I find it to be particularly useful when I do want to know what a link goes to.

How did I miss that. I had switched to FF several years ago and only used Safari to test out web pages I wrote.

I've been using it now since it was announces and I haven't had the first problem with it yet. I tend to open many tabs at once ~25 or so and it seems rock solid.

It's easy enough to forget/miss, especially if you haven't used it in awhile. I go back and forth between the two myself, but have been leaning more and more toward Safari - 'specially since it syncs my bookmarks with my iPhone. Glad that little tip was remotely helpful/enlightening.

A completely baseless comment. Please back it up. Yes, Safari has gained features over its lifetime, but it's still a very "clean" browser in terms of interface. Firefox is trying to mimic this while retaining expandability, and they are just not getting it right. I don't understand any Mac user that "prefers" Firefox. The feel is just wrong.

Because there are many sites that crash with Safari. That is why FireFox is useful.

Would rather wait for the final version. The beta was a mess, froze with eBay and the Top Sites display was too slow. Uninstalling it was very un-Mac like as well. Running the uninstaller did not uninstall Safari 4, it created a folder called Safari 3. Attempts to launch what you think is Safari 3 results in a crash, because it continues to launch Safari 4. So you have to manually delete Safari 4, then move Safari 3 back to the Apps folder and then delete the Safari 3 folder. Then Safari 3 will launch as expected.

PEEVED IN REDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you have many more problems besides your complaints against Leopard and a BETA version of Safari. Get over yourself. Your comments have no merit. Care to share some examples of why you think Leopard is a joke, or did you just want to whine and complain about nothing? Leopard is very stable, even on my 7 year old PowerBook G4. If you don't want to test BETA software, then don't download it and wait for the final version.

I made a discovery today. Go to view and select hide Toolbar. Now Safari's real estate on the monitor is massive. Hit Command-L whenever you need to enter a URL, and the Toolbar automatically hides itself after loading the new page. If you hide the Bookmarks Bar, even better!

@veggiedude
Firefox does both of those in one click with the oval in the upper right corner of the window, just like the Finder does. You would think Safari would do the same. But no.
