It seems as if this is intended solely for Kindle owners who also have iPhones. Otherwise it's crippleware.
I'm holding out for Apple's solution.

It's a shame Amazon is excluding newspaper & magazine subscriptions. That's the only reason I'd use Kindle on my iPhone. I was seconds away going to the App Store to get it, but now I won't waste my time.

Seriously read before posting. I just downloaded the app, downloaded a sample, works great. Page turns are slower than Stanza, and I can't figure out if it has a landscape mode yet. I don't have a Kindle and have wanted access to Kindle ebooks for ages. This is awesome.

BRILLIANT! I live abroad right now. I just downloaded one of my books from my Amazon library over wi-fi. I'm pretty sure it'll work on 3G as well. This is ABSOLUTELY perfect! If I don't carry a bag, or forget to bring my Kindle, it's great!

Sounds like a smart decision on Amazon's part: let all those people that think the iPhone/iPod Touch would be a great reading device try it out and realise that convergence just isn't going to work here.
You really need e-paper that's easy on the eyes and battery, not some bright screen that's constantly draining power just to read a page.

Very smart move on Amazon's part. Didn't see it coming. While the iphone is not a Kindle, the sample pages I just downloaded are great. I don't have a Kindle, but the iPhone app does seem to be missing other Kindle features like the ability to bookmark pages or do highlighting.
It's a shame that Apple didn't move on this market.

I am a Kindle owner and I am loving this! This is great! It also adds more value to my Amazon ebook purchases. (I can now make some room on my iPhone.) This app is working very well so far.....

One final thought. I've already moved Kindle for iPhone to my 5 position dock! It's that great!

In terms of the user interface, it's pretty barebones. No, there is no landscape mode either. Its biggest advantage is the ease of purchasing and installing Kindle books from Amazon, but the UI of Classics and eReader are a lot better.

This is again US only, like the Kindle. We over here in Europe are desperately waiting for some evolution in the ebook competition (up to now, it is onlly eReader/Fictionwise vs Mobipocket and the choice of quality books is not huge...).

leouraz,

Look at my first two comments. I am living in Japan. I do have a Kindle, but download to it via iMac and USB, as the Kindle's woreless doesn't work here. However, I just downloaded one of my books via Wi-Fi and another via 3G directly to my iPhone. You can buy from the Amazon.com store no matter where in the world you are.
