What connector did you use to connect the video/audio to your HDTV? I didn't see any HDTV connection on the new Mac Mini. This is the very thing I want to do at home and would like to know how you got it working before I decide if I want to invest in the Mini.
Thanks!

Jason B used a DVI to HDMI cable, then connected to the mini via the included Mini-DVI-to-DVI adapter.

That takes care of the video but you'll also need a mini Y splitter cable for the audio.

Thanks for this Jason B! My interest is now piqued to buy a Mac Mini to use as a media hub in the living room. I've been thinking about keyboard/mouse issues all day (don't want that either), and this little article couldn't have come at a better time.

What an absolute PERFECT combination - A Mac, an iPhone, and an HDTV! Now, THAT's living ... :-)

I've got my Macbook connected the same way. This might make for a handy app.
By the way, the audio should be connected via optical cable if possible. The DVD player will output 5.1 audio if connected this way.

Yes, you use a mini-optical to SPDF cable for the audio.

I'm a teacher and I use the Air Mouse in my classroom almost everyday. I can completely run my computer that I project for lessons from anywhere in the room. I run itunes, powerpoint, word and my web browser all from my iPhone.
Great App!!

Perfect timing! I was just getting ready to purchase a wireless keyboard and mouse for the same purpose - hulu and other video content not in iTunes.

I'd like to suggest my app called AirMote, a VNC type app that doesn't show your screen on the phone, rather it looks rather like a TV remote. It has setups for lots of media player apps such as Front Row, DVD Player and Boxee, that you can switch among with the flick of a finger. The screen layouts and buttons are fully customizable, the price is currently $3.99. -Mike (author of AirMote)

You guys really need to do a full, all inclusive, article about how to set up the Mac Mini as a media center for us folks who are a little more technically challenged. Let us know what the Mac Mini can do as a part of a media center. What components do I need and how do I hook everything up? Give us a schematic of what connects to what. Et-cetera.

A nice surround sound system is the NEXT step in my new mac mini media center. Right now I have the mini hooked up to my old iPod speakers -- Altec Lansing inMotion iM7.

You might just want to wire them into your TV's speakers. Your TV probably has an optical audio input.

I agree with MackyMoto _ I would love Macworld to do a step-by-step guide to setting up a Mini as a media centre - what is needed hardware and software wise etc etc.
I was planning to get one for this purpose but as I live in the UK and Apple PUT UP prices dramatically with the new machines I have been given pause ...
