I have my fully-maxed-out Anti-Glare model, and I am loving it! I am easily getting 7+ hours of battery time in "normal productivity use", so I really don't mind possibly having to pay $180 in 5 years to replace it. That's $36 per year for almost twice the battery of my last generation MBP 17". Well worth it in my book.
I would like to see the benchmarks for one of the 2.93GHz with 8Gig RAM and the 7200 RPM 320Gig drive though.

I believe Apple claims the battery can be charged 1,000 times before reaching 80 percent of its original capacity, not losing 80 percent.
Big difference.

Great review.
One wish - I would favor a MBP with two drives, eschewing the optical drive for a portable. I would use the extra disk for Windows. I've burned 5 disks and grab my software from the web. An optical disk is a waste of space for me.

@bonesb: Then you will like this 3rd party upgrade option:

I am considering it myself for the same purpose.

The Mac Pro doesn't use Core 2 Duos, as stated in your comparison chart - it uses Xeons, either quad or 8-core.

Why is the 15-inch 2.53 GHz faster than the 17-inch 2.66 GHz model ?
It would also be interesting to see some benchmark with the HD replaced by a SSD.

Fixed the Mac Pro reference. Sorry about that.

I'm sure there is an answer but I don't know.
Why would the
iMac 20-inch 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo (Apr. 2008)
be ~10% faster than the
MacBook Pro 17-inch 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo
When the newer laptop has an overall faster, newer, architecture?
Thanks

Trackpad button is hinged on unibody macbooks and macbook pros.
the end closest to the P in PEBKAC is the end that should be clicked.
(remember separate tracpad buttons have always been at that end...)
So, it's not as hard to click as u think.
It's also ridiculous to say the lack of adapters in the box is a Con against the thing, since these don't ship with any thing any more.
Only AppleTV ships with remote.

My guess is because of the 7200 RPM drive in the iMac. If you use Xbench to reference the systems, the iMac gets a much higher score on the hard drive tests. Makes you think though since that iMac costs over a grand less than the 17" MBP.

Like so many, I'm drooling over this new machine.
However, also like so many, I've been holding off buying this new 17-er or the 15-er pending Apple fixing this ridiculous, external 30-inch dual-DVI monitor problem (using their infamous $99 adapter).
Macworld, would you PLEASE do us all out here who are on the fence a favor and try plugging this puppy in to a few 30" monitors (from various manfuacturers -- including Apple, Samsung, Dell, etc.) using that Mini DisplayPort adapter and let us know if you're having the problems so many have been having with the unibody MB and MBPs? (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1836042&tstart=0)
Please, please, please?
Maybe the same problems apply to this model. Or maybe Apple quietly fixed something on the hardware side? (NVIDIA chip or whatever.) A guy can hope, can't he?
