“We thought, hey, you shouldn’t have to know what RSS is, we should be able to take those feeds and put all that information in there automatically,”
That is all well and good intentioned, but if you don't know what something is, that is usually a good clue that you should not be using it. It is one of the reasons so many users are clueless these days. It is waaay too easy to get in over their heads.

This is also available in the latest builds of the official GoogleBar for FireFox (all platforms). It's on by default, which startled me when I went to open a new tab the first time...
Actual setting is: GoogleBar Options (wrench icon) -> Search -> "Enable the Google new tab page" (inside the "Web-browsing tools" group.)

I must say that i was really impressed with that feature in Chrome, and it looked ok in Safari 4 beta as well. Looking forward to see how that will be in Chrome :)
On the other hand though i think that Firefox is/was in need of some other more important things. I mean i never liked the way it was handling flash content and it was kinda slow compared to Safari. Speed was not really an issue after making some tweeks in the about:config menu but whatever...
Meh anyway, let's see how things will be now and let's hope that everything will be sweet ;)

>Raskin explained. If we start loading up the [new tab] page with large thumbnails, that slows down the ‘feeling’ of speed.
It would seem that Raskin has not actually used either Chrome or Safari 4 as the large thumbnails used for the blank new tab are displayed instantaneously on both products.
