I know Flash on the iPhone has been debated to death on here, but it seems to me that having an iPhone without Flash capability is making getting and iPhone or iPod touch more and more difficult for me.
I wanted to wait for the next generation iPhone or Ipod touch, but now I'm wondering whether it is worth my while, since I use Facebook a lot and would like to use the actual applications on them in my browser on my iPhone or touch.
Is anyone else thinking the same thing?
(Please, do we really need to debate it to deatha again, or just let people decide if they want Flash for such applications as 175 million people who use Facebook and its many - and now rapidly increasing - Flash games and programs).
Thanks.

This sounds like Chrysler and Fiat getting together. Adobe Flash is an annoyance on websites and Facebook puts growth before profit (AOL business model? Because that worked so well). Great idea to team up these two industry giants! I am sure both will benefit so much from this collaboration....not.

Facebook started fantastic. Then they did the moronic "let's make the Website better by redesigning it". You are absolutely right in Flash making websites one huge annoyance. That is why I use AdBlocker on Firefox.
No one has learned that complete redesigns are poison...

Seems to be a disease.

@Hurley42 and @rdas7: goto www.aviary.com and take a look at what they've done with Flex running in the Flash virtual machine. Find a small startup that has accomplished similar apps with AJAX or jQuery. Flash with Flex and Air provides some huge productivity gains for small shops that want to create outrageous value propositions -- relative to let's say Google. Adobe/MM dropped the ball with Flash and Actionsript as tools optimized for developers, but recent competition has gotten them focused on this in a very meaningful way. Everyone seems to think it is cool to slam Flash, but if you look closely, and if you want to compete with the big boys (who don't want small shops to be that productive) then you'll find a lot to like. Otherwise stick to AJAX, get some VC-level funding to build your product (giving up lots of control and equity), and get competitive that way.

@needSomeCoffee ? I should have added that I have been a Flash developer for almost 10 years now, and so my opinion on Flash is somewhat specific. I don't deny that you can do some pretty nifty things with ti, it's just that as soon as you get to a certain level of sophistication (ie. where your web apps start blending with your desktop apps, aka "RIA", "Rich Internet Applications") it's weaknesses next to true application environments like Cocoa and .NET start to show through, and where web technologies like HTML5 and CSS3 and Javascript start to shine.
Aviary is a perfect example: yes, you can make an apparent Photoshop clone in Flash, and yes it seems impressive at first glance (the website looks shiny!!). But we're not yet at the point where web apps are going to replace desktop apps (don't expect design houses to be dropping their CS4 licenses in favor of Aviary.com anytime soon), and when we do get there, it's not going to be in Adobe's proprietary sandbox ? look to the myriad web apps that favor AJAX and HTML/CSS/Javascript for their functionality (Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Basecamp, etc. etc.)
As for Adobe being focused on tailoring their apps for developers, I am assuming from that comment you are not a developer using Adobe products. They are focused on marketing their products as easy-to-use, and more interested in closing the sale and leaving the customer stranded than they are in making quality apps. The plethora of bugs that still abound in CS3 that were simply ignored in favor of selling CS4 (with a whole NEW host of bugs!) shows a level of ambivalence on their part that is frankly insulting.

This is going to be huge for the flash and facebook platforms, sprout has been on the beta for this announcement and created some really cool applications that utilize the Actionscript 3.0 client libraries. check it out here http://sproutinc.com/socialmedia
I am really looking forward to the potential that this will bring from a branding and marketing perspective but also a interactivity standpoint.
