How do you accomplish the sharing? Is it a machine running OS X? Is there a way to have your library data on your local machine and your music mounted as a share volume? Or is the library shared on another machine and you find it under shared libraries in iTunes?
At first I was going to suggest AppleScript with Apple Events over the network but I don't think anything will work if you are just listening to a library being shared by the iTunes application on another machine, accessed from the "Shared" section in your iTunes.

I absolutely love I Love Stars. I came across it a few weeks ago and fell in love. I've been rating my songs like crazy to make my library more manageable but I ALWAYS listen to a song and forget to rate it. Potion Factory is a great developer, really solid applications. I'm using The Hit List as well which I love.
Anyone know if there's this sort of application for the iPhone? One that will prompt you to rate a song by dinging 2/3rds into the song.

I have used TotalTunes Control for rating iTunes songs for quite a while now. It offers keyboard shortcuts but more importantly, this free app also allows you to play, pause, skip to the next or previous track, and adjust the volume, all without taking your hands off the keyboard (or even switching to iTunes).
