Apparently you are confused. 1st download Onyx from version and have its scripts clean up your mac. Its free and it just runs the background UNIX jobs that would run if you left your mac on all the time or used it.

Secondly Apple doesn't charge for service packs. Neither does Microsoft. Service Packs are bug fixes and enhancements that aren't worthy for a new OS release. Did Microsoft give you Vista? No, of course not. Will Microsoft give you Windows 7 when it ships later this year? Heck no. In fact, Vista has been out about the same amount of time that OS X Leopard has been out and they are already replacing it this summer. This is on par for what Apple is doing with Leopard when Snow Leopard comes out.

Of course neither company forces you to upgrade. I still know many people running OS X 10.4 Tiger and that OS shipped 4 years ago.

Finally its not usually a few new features, lets try 300 new features. Its a major revision to the Mac OS but you don't have to learn a new OS to use it. When MS released Vista everything changed. You had to learn a new OS in many cases and software and devices quit working. This has never happened with OS X releases because the underlying OS Kernel and File system doesn't change. Neither does the GUI.

Go buy Windows 7 when it comes out but be aware... MS is already in development of Windows 8 so you may want to wait longer. I guess when you look at it they are both companies out to get your money. Id rather pay 130 dollars to get a new OS vs. 200 for Windows upgrades.

And the funny thing about the commercials is that the price shouldnt matter because the Microsoft people said they will pay for it. Price wouldn't be a factor because its not like its even coming out of their pocket. All I would do is find the most expensive computer and have them pay for it.
