I have no idea what this means or if it's serious or not, but I'd just like some info on what it could be. When I start up my CRT iMac (OS 10.1.5) the start-up screen will be shifted noticably to the right during the "happy Mac" phase. What I mean is the black area to the left will be much wider than the area to the right of the usable screen area. After the screen adjusts its resolution and starts loading the OS, everything is normal. I'm not sure how recurring this issue is (I have a habit of doing something else in the room while my computer is starting up) but today was the worst I've seen it.

So what's going on here, and should I be concerned?

How old is your monitor? I think that as CRT monitors age the gun in them gets farther out of whack. As long as the screen sets itself up properly from preferences and looks normal once the OS loads in, I don't think you have to worry too much. If you can still adjust the monitor if you need to you should be fine.

I guess that's probably it then. My iMac is the Rev D (333MHz), so it's about three and a half years old.
