I never use Acrobat reader, I don't even have it installed on my Mac. Preview works just fine for me.

Until you need to complete forms, then you have no choice except to use Acrobat.

Or if you need barcodes to print correctly (like USPS Priority labels)

Same Here. I only use Acrobat when Preview does not display PDFs created with Illustrator CS4 correctly.

For the PC I don't know if there are any other choice besides Adobe Reader.

That's funny - last time I had a PDF form to fill in (from the IRS, no less), it would NOT let me save a (still-editable) copy from Acrobat (latest version on the Mac), but Preview WOULD let me both fill in the form & save (and re-edit) it..

No, the only time I've ever needed to revert to the lumbering Adobe Reader is when I had to fiddle with some customer magnification/reduction features, and Preview's wasn't quite nuanced enough.

Completely wrong. Preview handles forms just fine. Acrobat Reader is not necessary on a Mac. I create forms all the time in Acrobat and they are totally workable in Preview. And if they weren't I work with them until they are.

Please verify your information before posting something so wrong.

I print all of our USPS barcodes just fine from Preview. You may need to check "No automatic page scaling" in the Print dialog box, but Preview does barcodes just fine.

@TxTom - "If they weren't" = you, sir, just proved the point. Where is your verification, hmm? LOL.
Seriously, there are MANY programs to create PDF forms and many many OLD versions of Acrobat that create forms that open BLANK, all info missing!
Sometimes, I have to use Acrobat Reader for that reason alone...

I need to use Acrobat. As an output professional we depend on it and plugins like Pit-Stop to fix common user errors before outputting files to print. So disabling Java is really not that big a deal. I don't even know exactly why it is even implemented. I am sure is to automate some kind of integrated related functionality in certain corporate environments, but to me, this feature is worthless in any case, so I switched it off a while back.

Okay, I guess USPS fixed their PDF generation program. Now barcodes print correctly using Preview. I don't know when this happened, but now I don't need Adobe Acrobat Reader unless its specifically called for by a client.
