Great review! While reading it, I couldn't help wondering what Apple would create if it did something like this, but allowed outside developers to create applications and publishers to bypass Amazon. Besides the price, the chief fault of the Kindle is that it's such a closed system.

That 3rd picture, with the musical score, is really intriguing. Can I hook up a foot switch to control the Next Page button? If so, I'm scanning all my music into pdf and will from now on perform from a Kindle.
In a pinch (so to speak) I could do with a swipe gesture over a touch screen. However, pressing a button is not good enough.

A $500 book? No thanks. Even the original Kindle isn't worth it.

Kind of off topic, but I love the slideshow as implemented above. Is this an entirely purpose-built solution or is there a script or a flash plug-in that I could use for my own gallery?
The combination of thumbnails with corresponding numerical buttons is really useful and so far my favorite approach that I've seen.

Question...
Is it easy to highlight and annotate?
If I used it as a textbook replacement, would highlighting and notes be burdensome or relatively easy?

The Kindle vs. Paper book savings will offset the cost.
I purchased 7 books so far and my savings is well over $40.

Save the trees man!!!

Nice overview of Kindle DX capabilities. two points of contention with the screenshots.
1st: Two of the screen shots (#9 & #11) showing the difference in number of words per line, only show the menu to make the choices, the on-screen text is totally covered by the menu, thus showing us nothing.
2nd: The screenshot #14 showing the pdf rotated for landscape display didn't rotate, the screen image hasn't changed at all from the vertical orientation #13.
