I don't know about laptops, but note that all ipods referenced are SSD's (Nano, Touch, Shuffle). I'm a photographer, use my ipod classic as a backup drive synced to my camera. Shooting Bolivia above 14,000 feet, drive froze and lost previously synched but not further backed up (on DVD) photos. Subsequently heard that at least 1/2 ipod classics bit the dust in Bolivia & other high altitudes. Personally would only take a SSD laptop to same altitudes.
