The internet is already abuzz with 10.5.7 install problems like we have reported here. Why nothing from Macworld? Maybe the staff is busy working on critiques of Microsoft's latest ad campaign.

Juts remember, people that do not experience problems will not report back. I have installed this update in three Macs so far. I only got the reboot loop on my Mac Pro, I simply forced it to shut down, booted up again, and the problem went away. On my unibody Macbook and G5, no problem whatsoever.

In all three I used the combo update.

My iMac simply wouldn't reboot. After trying everything else, I had to reinstall the OS. Very disappointing and time consuming.

I've updated three computers (Combo Update) and they all were flawless with the standard double restart. So I don't think this is indeed a widespread problem...you're only reading about the relatively small percentage of folks who've had issues.

It must be tied to some modification or hack you've applied to the underlying OS. Undoubtedly someone will eventually figure out the culprit but until then folks who have extensively changed the OS or have used MacPilot with wild abandon should proceed with caution (and obviously have a current backup before starting).

I have a unibody Macbook, I had the blue screen but then it rebooted it self a couple of times and that was it. I just noticed the the Dock now has a frame, I am not if it was there before the update, was it?

Agreed! Installed it on a Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz core 2 Duo and it's fine. There is always a balance to be made with filling what Apple has sold you with stuff they have not sold to you. Often (but not always!) it is the extra applications that we add that cause problems like these and yet we blame Apple.

Same bluescreen recycling. And a scary slowness of system boot, the first three times, and intense sloth on startup of several applications (notably, Camino, which usually starts after just one bounce on the tray).

I installed last night (May 12). I routinely power down at night and power up/reboot in the morning. My 18-month-old 2G MacBookPro seems to be pretty much back to its perky self this morning. A little slower, but pretty much.

10.5.7 doesn't let you use Java 1.6, does it?

The update won't download on both my MacBook (early 2009) and my iMac (Intel, late 2008). Software Update says that the update isn't signed correctly or is corrupted - this happens on both the iMac and MacBook.

I have a MBP too, but not really noticed anything (as I usually don't) however, I did notice when I updated the G4 iBook which I use to feed the AppleTV, the update was only 230mb, so must be different updates for one or the other.. unless it's cos I don't have the iLife suite on the iBook?

Macworld ignores PowerPC Macs. The delta update for PowerPC's is only 230 MB. Intel Macs get the 400+ MB update. The update applies differently for PowerPC's and Intel Macs. The combo update is the same for both, since it applies for both.

I downloaded the combo update for the 867 PowerMac and the 1.5 PowerBook. Both took sometime with the final installation (2 minutes to go heading took closer to 10 minutes).

Both machines did the double boot, and both work fine.

For some reason Software Update is a problem for a lot of folk, as is the incremental update.

Download and install the Combo update from the Apple site http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOSX1057Combo_Update

You may get the blue/gray screen cycle of doom, but give it a good 5-7 minutes and then, if it's still cycling blue/gray screens, reboot. It's a bit scary, especially for us long-time Mac users who are not used to ANY glitches like this, but it'll start up just fine.

Updated my iMac G5 2.1 GHz iSight using the Combo Update (which I always use) and it was a flawless update as usual. The energy saver icon in 10.5.7 is now an energy efficient fluorescent bulb. Other than that, just bug fixes that I never encountered in the past.

For Tiger systems, you need to apply the new security update 2009-002 in order to get the Safari 3.2.3 update.

The article mentions that there is more RAW image support, but looking at the list of supported cameras before and after the update reveals that no new cameras were added. Can anyone identify any additional cameras?

The RAW support is for the new SPY cameras that Apple has secretly installed as part of their "Total Control" regime.
