"That said, I found that having the prepackaged software installed negatively impacted the unit’s Speedmark scores; I needed to reformat the drive in order to have it post the best performance. "
Good point. These days, when I buy an external hard drive, I throw the install CD in a drawer and reformat the drive. The included software is more a hindrance than a help.
Time Machine does a great job of backing up!

I'm confused by the article. Near the end of the article it says, "The $0.28 price per gigabyte is also several cents more expensive than ..."
Below in the Specifications table it shows the price per gigabyte to be $0.18. Please clarify.
Overall the article confuses me when it said , "the Thunder Pro turned in only satisfactory test results." Yet the article goes on to point numerous examples of the drive beating out the "top of the line"... My Book Studio Edition e.g. low-memory Photoshop tests similarly bested the top-of-the-line competition’s scores".
It offers one of the best warranties, has the additional FW port on the front (ideal for AV pros connecting FW cameras) and offers a 48 hours turn around. The article doesn't say whether the top of the line My Book Studio Edition offers this service. Does any other hard drive offer this?
This sounds like a lukewarm review to what sounds like a solid product.
