I don't know if was noted but the new MBP they cut SATA interface down to a slower 1.5 from previous 3.0...... not noticeable on regular use customers, but a huge thing if you go to SSD.

So they made them cheaper by:
Lowering L2 cash 3mb vs 6 mb (except 2.8 model), Slower SATA interface 1.5 vs 3.0, Lower graphic card on some models 256 vs 512 mid model of 15". I am sure that mostly people that have no clue what that means will even know to ask about it. They are just tricked in buying a "cheaper" machine. When to me apple was never about cheaper but I pay for what I get.... now it is questionable.

SATA 1.5 won't make any difference for spinning laptop hard drives.
However, I suspect that the different hard drives in the two computers explains a good chunk of the difference in the benchmarks. It would be interesting to switch the hard drives and see what happened.

Would be interested to see some testing / commentary on the battery life, operating temp, and fan noise implications of going for one of the 35 Watt processors (2.8GHz w/T9600 or the 3.06GHz w/T9900) instead of the 25 Watt models (2.53GHz w/P8700 or the 2.66GHz w/P8800).
