I keep getting kicked off of AOL after about
30 seconds. It's never happened before. I re installed AOL again so I think its my Mac. I can hear the hard drive just before it kicks me offline. There is still a modum sound when I pick up the phone. I have to pull the phone jack out of the computer.
Does anyone have any suggestions.
Thank you,
Gregg Smith GSmith2849@aol.com

I helped someone fix a problem with AOL disconnects on two separate occassions by removing all AOL files (you can use the installer to uninstall most files by changing "easy install" to "uninstall", then run sherlock to find all the remaining files that match "America Online" and "AOL", except any AIM files and the AOL installer, and move them to the trash). Empty your trash, reboot, then do a fresh install with the installer. Apparently, some of the older files can get corrupted and cause AOL to crash after a few minutes of being logged in, and a reinstall without deleting the old files won't remove the corruption. I don't know which files specifically get corrupted, so I just deleted them all! AOL works fine now.

I had issues with AOL today just like these. We trashed files, uninstalled, reinstalled and had all sorts of fun, (in the interim AOL had me call Apple claiming the issue was "system" related-it was NOT)after which AOL said that the problem was with them. I opened an Earthlink account, and am not going back to AOL.

Interestingly enough, I had similar problems on an 333 mgz iMac. I finally gave up, and just learned how to replicate what I did most on aol with a simple browser. I used IE for a while but now am liking Safari pretty good.
I keep AIM for a chat app without using the rest of the service. That works just fine for me.
