USB 2.0 for HD Video???!!!
I think Lacie needs to rethink this and add a Firewire 800 and eSATA.
USB 2.0 will take forever with HD Video.

@rab777hp - Where have you been? We've had Firewire in our lab PCs for ages.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire

Of course you can put a firewire interface- but no one does, Apple basically invented it, and there are a few different standards around now for it, Apple is the only big proponenet.

Both Macs and PC use Firewire, but the more important issue, is that if you're doing HD Video, you are going to want faster than 480Mbits/second, which USB 2.0 tops out at.

Firewire 800 transfer rates upto 800Mbits/second

eSATA transfer rates upto 3Gbit/second

It just doesn't make sense.

Lacie has to know this, they make a lot of products with eSATA and FW800, I just they're going cheap.

maybe i'm wrong here, but the usb 2.0 is just to transfer files to and from the drive, who really cares if you need firewire or esata. I'm using a Western Digital Media Player, which handles more file formats and I use a MyBook USB 2.0 external drive, works just fine. If your wondering, my hackintosh runs both Vista and Mac OS X and comes natively with Three firewire ports on a Gigabyte Motherboard.
