I have an HP DeskJet842c hooked up to a print server and a TiBook 1GHz w/SuperDrive running Jaguar. I can't get Jaguar to print to the print server correctly. Jaguar only comes with certain drivers that work over a network. I can get the printer to respond if I use a different driver but it just prints out giberish. All ideas are welcome.

HP/ Network Printing Issues - HELP!!

My experience is that there are two strict requirements if you want to print from OS X to an HP DeskJet printer via a network print server using HP's Deskjet driver for OS X:
1. you should use the latest DeskJet driver version for OS X available for download on HP's web site.
2. you must use only HP's JetDirect models of print server (I can recommend the 300x). For unknown reasons (to me, anyway) you will not be able to make this work with a third-party print server, even if that print server meets the basic requirement that it supports the Appletalk network protocol.

If you do have a non-HP print server, and if that print server supports the LPR and TCP/IP network protocols, you certainly can still use this printer with the help of a third-party printer driver designed for Jaguar's CUPS printing system. I recommend either GimpPrint or HPIJS, found at http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/ .
