i'm trying to uninstall norton antivirus becuase it's giving me a security warning about a bad .kext file every time i log in. but since there's no uninstall app that came with it that i can see, i'm attempting to remove the files listed in the installer log manually.
the only problem is it wont let me delete the KTUM.kext file associated with it in the system/library/extension folder. if i drag it to the trash it says it cannot be moved there because it cannot be deleted. and when i try to drag it out of the folder, it just makes a copy. i tried making myself the owner, but it didn't make a difference.
is there any way to delete this file?

There is an uninstall option. Insert the install CD and it will work (i have done it). For some reason, if you don't have it or it won't work, you have to log in as the root user or boot into OS 9. If you can boot into 9, it may be better. If you cant...
(1) open "Applications->Utilities->Netinfo manager"
(2) Authenticate (enter admin password)
(3) Go to security menu and select "Enable root user"
(4) select password
(5) quit and logout
In the log-in screen you will see "Other user." Click on it and type root as the name and your password below. Now you are logged in and can do anything. BE CAREFUL! Delete your file. When you are done, logout, login as your self and go back into netinfo and disable root user. You are done!

If you update norton it is supposed to get rid of that warning message. It's a bug.
