I presently have a 2.0 MegaPIX camera and have thought about going to 3.0 or 4.0.

(1) Lets say I am going to ake photos for EMAILing or the WEB. Am I better taking the photo at 2.0 on my camera and then reducing the imaging for EMAILing using iPhoto or other image program.

(2) Lets say I buy a 3.0 MegaPIX camera. Would I then get better results bytaking the image at 3.0 and reducing the size in iPhoto for EMAILing.

I now use a 2.0 MegaPIX Dimage X but the 3.0 MegaPIX model is coming. Of note, the new one has a fundtion in the camera to COPY images and reduce their size for EMAILing - thus preserving the larger image.

I do sometimes like to print nice 5X7 or a little bigger photos. Is 3.0 powerful enough for me or should I go to 4.0.

My Dimage X takes what I consider to be very nice photos for a camera I can carry in my jean pocket without a buldge - but I'm thinking I want the new 3.0 version when it comes-out soon. Its the Dimage Xi.

Any other commenst on the philosophy of pixels would be appreciated.

Essentially, the higher the pixel rating means higher resolution (in terms of total pixels in an image as it relates to size) which in the end gives ou more flexibility for making images both for email and printing.

All things being equal, both cameras will do a good job of taking pictures for the web or email. The 3mp camera will produce better images for printing larger pictures (8X10). Both should do well with smaller prints.

New cameras often times means new features. Going from 2mp to 3mp isn't really a big jump. Going to 4mp would double your resolution capability therefore would be more significant. Look at all the features of the new cameras before deciding.

Don't forget cropping. If you like to grab part of a picture then remember that you'll only be grabbing part of the total pixels. If you want to crop and then print an enlargement of the result, the extra pixels become vital.
