I have noticed the last month that when I put my G4 to sleep I get a sound from the tower that sounds like - I don't know how to expleain - but if you have a spinning disk and suddenly it stops - the motor stops but the disk continues to spin for a split second longer - or - if a LP is playing on a phonograph and suddenly turned off but the needle sort of squeeks another second or two of sound. I have run every repair method available and everything comes up fine. Is there any moving part in the tower that would want to drag on and make this sound when put to sleep? The computer is still awesome and works great - it is just this strange sound that has me freaked. Do I need to take it in????? I'll miss my Mac if it is even gone from my house for 1/2 a day!

You might try flipping down the side door and giving a good listen to it when you put the Mac to sleep. You might be able to identify the sound more easily -- determine that it's a fan or hard drive, for example.

I've noticed that some fans sound like that as they wear. If it is coming from the HD, then I would back up data immediately, and wait for it to fail. I bet it's just a fan or something, though.
Good luck.
