'cause even the best powered speakers wouldn't match a set of car speakers. And if they could, the battery usage would render it rather impractical.

Chris Breen is absolutely correct. I had the same question basicly. I copied some of my CD's to my computer in MP3 format then I thought that I could burn a whole bunch of songs to one CD, but I could get only 27 songs onto the CD. They averaged 25.9 MB each, but adding all of the MP3 files together came to only 97.9 MB total.
After reading Chris's reply, I went back and checked my Burn Prefs and they were Audio CD instead of MP3 and yes from an MP3 file, they changed to an AIFF file format and they work in my 2000 Honda very well. So, if you use the new file format, but burn to Audio CD then your songs will work in an autmobile.
Thanks Chris.

This is cool! I never knew that iTunes would automatically convert the MP3 files to AIFF if the preferences were set to Audio CD. My iTunes is set to Audio CD but I always convert to AIFF first in a separate play list before burning to a CD. Now I can skip that extra long and unnecessary step! Thanks to everyone who replied -- gotta go create my next playlist! There are plenty of songs I purchased!
