And when I try to download it manually, it requests my Quicktime Pro Registration number. I don't know what that is. Any thoughts? Why isn't it in Software Update like usual?

Just click continue. You only need the registration info if you have QT Pro.

I have noticed that iTunes 4 isn't showing up in SW update either. I have not moved iTunes 3 from the applications folder so I wonder why?

I'm having the same trouble as FTrain reports.
When I go through the installation procedure (after downloading the normal Quicktime 6.2, NOT the pro version) I get a box asking for my name, organization, and registration number. Yes, the instructions say that if I don't have a reg. number, I should click "Continue". But clicking "Continue" doesn't do any good: I get a dialogue box insisting that I need a reg. number to install Quicktime Pro. Which is irritating, because I'm not trying to install Quicktime Pro, just the free version so I can get full functionality from the new iTunes.
Any thoughts?

I downloaded QT 6.2 and did indeed get the dialog box asking for the reg #. It clearly states though, that if I don't have one to leave the boxes blank and click continue. I then got a window telling me I can update to the pro version later and the software installed with no problems. I think the key here is to leave all the boxes blank, don't put your name or any other info in them then click continue.

FTrain, I was having the same trouble as you were, and just five minutes ago I wrote a post to this forum describing my difficulties.
And then I had an inspiration: when you get to the registration dialogue box during installation (the one which asks for your name, organization and reg. #) leave ALL the fields blank and just click continue.
I was entering my name and leaving the reg # blank, and so the registration app thought I was trying to register. If you leave everything blank, the intallation goes smoothly.
Now to try out the new codecs for iTunes 4.
